SUMMARY:Eric Theise - A Synesthete's Atlas: Cartographic Improvisations /
 Ivan Liptak
DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20250915T190000
DTSTAMP:20250915T230000Z
UID:OSMCAL-4050
DESCRIPTION:Real-time cartographic improvisations using projected\, manipu
lated digital maps by Eric Theise in collaboration with The Hut Improviser
 s. A visual wash of street grids\, land masses\, water bodies\, and curios
ities from built and natural environments. Driving beats. Orphaned labels
and free-floating symbology. Auditory roundabouts and redirections. Satura
ted colors and the subtlest of tints. Sounds symphonic and screeching. Jit
tery zooms\, pans\, and traversals. Glitches in crowdsourced data. \n\nThe
opening set is by guitarist Ivan Liptak.\n\nTheise's solo set will last a
pproximately 40 minutes\, and Liptak will join him for an improvised duo t
o close the evening. Theise's work occasionally introduces strobing effect
 s that may affect photosensitive viewers.\n\n\nBios\n\n[Eric Theise](https
://erictheise.com/) is a San Francisco-based artist and geospatial softwar
e developer. Through video and realtime performance tools he reinvigorates
the perceptual inquiries of structural filmmakers\, experimental animator
s\, the Light and Space movement\, and 60's light shows\, occasionally inj
ecting letterform experiments inspired by visual poetry\, as new possibili
ties in the realm of digital cartography.\n\n[Ivan Liptak](https://ivanlip
tak.bandcamp.com/) is a guitarist from Washington\, DC. He attended Hampsh
ire College in Western Massachusetts where he studied improvisation\, comp
osition\, and guitar. He currently holds a BFA in Guitar Performance from
Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has studied a range of idioms with
artists including Anthony Pirog\, Marty Ehrlich\, Amanda Monaco\, Kate Sop
er\, and Phillip de Fremery. His influences include but are not limited to
  Adris Hoyos\, Marc Ribot\, and Cindy Lee.\nEvent Website: https://withfri
